First Dance Friday

Although the song originated in France – where it was a hit for in 1916 – it was popularized in the English speaking world in the 1920s with the 1921 recording by Ziegfeld Follies singer Fanny Brice. The song was a hit, and the record eventually earned a Grammy Hall of Fame Award for Brice in 1999.
There’s a plethora of fantastic artists featured on the Boardwalk Empire Soundtrack! Lots of jazz and bluesy voices, including Regina Spektor, who sings a classic song made famous by Fanny Brice (and then Barbra Streisand in Funny Girl), My Man!

While this song may not be every couples cup of tea for a ‘first dance’, it’s soulful lyrics and classic sound makes it a fun option if you happen to be considering a 1920’s themed wedding.
